Gigantic bespoke rustic larder installed in a customer's kitchen

ONE OF ONE: OUR GIGANTIC BESPOKE LARDER

Every now and again, we make a piece that stops even us in our tracks.

There is no subtle way to describe this one. It is absolutely gigantic.

This completely bespoke larder was made for a customer who wanted a serious amount of practical kitchen storage, without compromising on the rustic appearance and solid construction that brought them to Three Skulls Furniture in the first place.

They needed something far beyond anything they could simply walk into a shop and buy, so we took their idea and created it from scratch.

A larder on another level

From the outside, two towering plank doors, traditional black ironwork and a warm rustic finish give the unit a bold but simple appearance.

Open those doors and its true scale becomes clear.

Inside are two enormous storage sections, with shelving running from top to bottom, four useful pull-out drawers through the centre and large open compartments for baskets, jars, dry food and all the kitchen essentials that usually end up fighting for cupboard space.

Every inch was designed to work hard. It gives our customer an enormous amount of storage while still looking like a proper piece of handmade furniture rather than a row of ordinary kitchen units.

Made in two parts. Built to look like one.

The biggest challenge was not making it. It was making sure something of this size could actually be delivered safely and placed inside the customer’s home.

Building it as one enormous cabinet would have made access and transport incredibly difficult, so the larder was designed from the very beginning as two separate sections.

Each half could be made, moved and delivered individually before being positioned together in the customer’s kitchen.

Once in place, both sections line up to create the appearance of one huge, seamless larder. The practical solution became part of the design without taking anything away from the finished piece.

One home. One customer. One of one.

This was not a standard-sized cabinet taken from a catalogue, and it was never supposed to be.

Its size, internal layout and overall character were created specifically for one customer and one space, making it a genuine one of one build.

Seeing it fully stocked and being used exactly as intended is the best possible final photograph. It has gone from raw timber in our workshop to a statement piece that looks completely at home in its new surroundings.
