A Whitby Airbnb Furniture Project, In Its Bare Bones

No staged room. No perfect lighting. No cushions carefully placed for a photograph.

This is one of our latest jobs in its bare bones—a huge order that will soon be heading out to Whitby to help complete an Airbnb.

Right now it is spread across the workshop in raw timber. The doors are hung, the drawers are fitted and the main builds are taking shape. It might not look glamorous at this stage, but this is the part we love. You can actually see the furniture for what it is before the finish goes on.

A full property, not just one room

This is not a case of making one bed and sending it on its way. The order covers furniture for across the property, including beds, wardrobes, drawer units, storage pieces, a TV stand and a chunky coffee table.

Everything has been made to sit together as one collection, but every piece still has its own job to do. An Airbnb needs furniture that looks the part, but it also needs to put up with real use from one set of guests to the next. That is why the order has been built with proper storage, solid frames and plenty of weight behind it.

The storage pieces

There is a fair amount of storage in this job. Wardrobes, a tallboy, chest of drawers and cupboard units are all in the workshop together. At this stage you can still see the grain, knots, construction and black hinges before everything receives its final finish.

Furniture for the living space too

The order also includes a chunky coffee table and a TV stand with open storage and drawers. Simple, useful pieces that will work hard without looking like generic flat-pack furniture dropped into a holiday let.

What happens next?

There is still work to do. Every piece will be finished, checked and prepared before the full order is loaded and taken to Whitby.

Once the Airbnb is complete and everything is in place, we will share the updated photographs online. These workshop pictures show the bare bones; the next ones will show how the whole property comes together.

For now, it is back to the sawdust.
